Students from Long Island high schools and colleges toured Precipart in Farmingdale Friday as part of this year's National Manufacturing Day observance.

Each year, thousands of manufacturers around the country open their doors on the first Friday in October "to inspire the next generation of manufacturers," organizers said.

Precipart, a supplier of high-precision custom gears and mechanical components, hosted students, job seekers, and community members for the day-long event at its facility at 120 Finn Court.  Groups of students from Glen Cove High School and Farmingdale State College were among those attending.

Precipart, a global company with 270 employees, is currently hiring for eight open positions, said Maria Broadway, marketing and communications manager.  Company officials hope the tours will inspire students to consider STEM careers, she said.

The company's products are sold in the medical, aerospace and industrial markets. It also has offices in Switzerland, the United Kingdom and India.
