Cannabis products recalled in New York over pesticide concerns

Several adult-use cannabis products sold throughout New York have been recalled after the New York State Office of Cannabis Management found that they had "unallowable pesticides," posing a potential public health and safety risk to consumers.

OCM didn't say which pesticides were found.

The nine products included in the recall all come from Brooklyn-based IndoGrow LLC. They are: 

• The Force Pre-Roll
• Blue Coffee Flower
• Blue Coffee Pre-Roll
• Sour Runtz Flower
• Sour Runtz Pre-Roll
• Cosmic Burst Flower
• Oreoz Flower
• Oreoz Pre-Roll
• Secret Formula Flower

The products may go by other names, including Indi, Grow by Indi, Our Creation and Grow with Us, according to OCM. IndoGrow could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.

Dispensaries and distributors must stop sales of the products immediately, the OCM said.

The recall has been called precautionary, and there have not been any reports of adverse effects as of Wednesday afternoon, the office confirmed. Adverse effects of pesticides in marijuana products can include nausea, headaches and respiratory issues, according to California-based Encore Labs, an accredited cannabis testing group. 

Three of Long Island's recreational dispensaries, including Strain Stars, Planet Nugg and Happy Days, told Newsday they didn't carry the products. Four medical dispensaries, including Columbia Cares, Curaleaf, Sunnyside and The Botanist confirmed they didn't carry them, either.

The affected products were originally quarantined after invalid testing by a former permitted lab, then retested and determined to pose a potential risk. The state has not disclosed the name of the lab.

All cannabis products are tested for pesticides, according to the OCM. A May 2025 overview of cannabis testing by the OCM stated that pesticides used during production of adult use and medical cannabis must be declared by the grower for targeted testing, and that additional testing will be done on the product to ensure that it doesn't exceed certain limits. Licensees and registered organizations may also be required to submit samples for more tests if needed.

OCM advised consumers who purchased any of the recalled products to return them to the retail dispensary they were purchased from, even if they have been opened, and to call the Poison Center at 800-222-1222 if they feel unwell after using one of the recalled products.
