Remote workers stressed by 'layoff anxiety,' survey finds

Employees are getting increasingly worried about losing their jobs, with the fear most pronounced among remote workers. A survey by business consulting firm Clarify Capital found one-third of workers are suffering from “layoff anxiety” over concerns they will be fired in 2025. For remote workers, that number grows to 47%.

Gen Z workers were the most worried, with 40% fearing they will lose their jobs this year compared with 33% of millennials. As for boomers and Gen Xers, 29% of workers in those generations thought their jobs were in jeopardy.

Layoff anxiety is changing how workers approach their jobs, with 69% saying they “prioritize job security over career growth.” One-third said they would take a 10% to 20% pay cut if it meant avoiding a layoff.

AARP: Concern on seniors’ debt

Cash-strapped older Americans are dipping into their credit cards to pay for basic necessities. AARP says 47% of Americans 50 and older who have credit cards use them to pay for food and other essentials “to make ends meet.” A big driver of older Americans’ credit-card debt is to pay for health care costs, led by dental expenses, prescription drugs and vision care.

Pet project

Petco is teaming with Uber Eats so you can treat your pets to treats without leaving the house. Products from Petco available for delivery can be selected on the Uber Eats app. Not everything in your local Petco store is available, however. Petco says the for-delivery products are a “curated assortment” of its huge inventory.

Betting on the betting market

Sports Illustrated is launching a predictions market allowing bets on anything linked to athletic events — except the outcome of games. SI Predict will feature bets on things such as football-game attendance or what song a halftime musician will perform, but not who will win a specific game. The online betting market has been soaring since 2018 when the Supreme Court struck down a ban on sports betting. — BLOOMBERG NEWS
