The former Sands Motel in Montauk is set to reopen in June as the newly renovated and renamed Offshore Montauk, according to the developer behind the lodging.
The property, at 71 S. Emerson Ave. near the downtown area along Montauk Highway, is set to open in early June, according to Enduring Hospitality Group, the developers behind the new hotel. The 43-room luxury hotel, which has 18 suites, features extensive oceanfront views, a resort style pool, a luxury gym and spa with cold plunges, saunas and red-light therapy facilities.
The property developer said while the motel site wasn’t demolished, the developer invested millions in a “down to the studs” renovation of the site, adding new walls, ceilings and floors.
“We designed Offshore Montauk as a tribute to the history of Montauk — an escape where guests can curate their own experience; whether it's unwinding by the beach, enjoying a restful reset, or sharing memorable moments with friends and family,” Marley Dominguez, owner of Enduring Hospitality said in a statement.
Rates start at $500 per night during weekdays in the early summer season and go up to around $1,000 per night during peak season weekend days, the developer said.
Sands Motel, a longtime fixture of the East End’s summer tourism scene, was placed on the market in 2023 and purchased by Enduring last year for $23.5 million, the company confirmed. The 19,500-square-foot, four-building oceanfront complex features 360-degree views of the ocean and Fort Pond, according to its property listing from last year.
The Hausman family, who operated Sands for three generations, had contracted with brokerage firm Compass Commercial in 2023 to market the property.
Longtime Sands owner Richard J. Hausman Sr. died in 2022 at 97, according to an East Hampton Star obituary. Hausman’s parents and brother built the hotel in 1951 before adding buildings to the complex over the years.
A previous sale of the property in 2022 had fallen through, brokers with Compass said last year.
