Florida-based Sheltair plans to upgrade its facilities at Long Island MacArthur Airport, the company announced in a news release.

The Fort Lauderdale company handles operational assistance for airlines at 14 locations around the United States, including LIMA in Ronkonkoma, Republic Airport in Farmingdale, and Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach.

At LIMA, the Sheltair improvements will include upgrading two hangars, improving drainage, updating customer parking, repaving ramp and tie-down areas, and removing old fuel tanks.

"General aviation serves as a crucial transportation link for Long Island businesses and the economy as a whole, with Long Island MacArthur Airport playing a vital role in supporting that function," said Todd Anderson, Sheltair's senior vice president for real estate and development, in the release.

"Our sustained commitment to serving that segment of the aviation community continues to be self-evident through our investment under way at Long Island MacArthur, as well as our other properties in the New York metro area."

This new project brings Sheltair's investment in its LIMA facility to $1.1 million total.
