Stony Brook Medicine has opened a cardiac catheterization laboratory at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
The lab is located inside the hospital’s Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart & Stroke Center.
“This cath lab brings extended care to a population who previously could not access potentially lifesaving care within the recognized critical window of time and diagnostic services important for ongoing care,” said Dr. Reuven Pasternak, vice president for health systems for Stony Brook Medicine.
The East End hospital officially joined Stony Brook Medicine in August.
Stony Brook and the 125-bed hospital announced a letter of intent to merge in October 2012. The deal required multiple state regulatory approvals.
The hospital expects to construct a new hospital on Stony Brook University’s Southampton campus. The new facility, which could take up as much as 14 of the campus’s 88 acres, would replace its existing hospital at 240 Meeting House Lane in Southampton.
The hospital is staffed by more than 280 physicians, dentists, and allied health professionals representing 48 medical specialties.
