BeFunky app: A feature-rich free photo editor
NAME BeFunky (befunky.com)
WHAT A photo editor for computer and mobile devices
HOW MUCH Free (with in-app purchases)
COMPATIBLE WITH Computers; iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iOS 8.0 or later; Android devices with OS 2.3 or later
WHAT’S GOOD There are many photo-editing apps you can download free, and this is one of the better ones, if only because it has no ads other than a prompt to buy the complete version ($1.99 mobile; $4.95 a month or $24.95 a year for PC). Whether you are editing photos or creating collages, the free tools, effects, text, stickers and frames will keep you plenty busy before you’ll even consider upgrading. Although the mobile app is excellent, especially for posting pictures to social media on the fly, we preferred the PC version, which has a much larger range of capabilities. That one has templates for menus, cards (from holiday to birthday greetings) and invitations, as well as templates for headers and cover photos for shopping and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Etsy and Pinterest. The effects library also is more extensive. We especially liked the Cartoonizer in the Artsy effects area.
WHAT’S NOT It’s so much fun to use the effects and graphics that after exhausting the free library you might be tempted to purchase the upgrade. On the PC version that becomes rather costly — especially at the annual rate, which would seem more justifiable as a one-time lifetime fee.
BOTTOM LINE This software’s big picture includes more than just your photos.
