No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle for the Wii
NO MORE HEROES 2: DESPERATE STRUGGLE
RATING M for Mature
As over-the-top gorefests in video games go, you would be hard-pressed to find one bloodier than 2008's No More Heroes for the Wii. Thankfully, the game was such a niche hit for Ubisoft that it has brought back our favorite light-beam-wielding assassin for another go.
After conquering the assassin's circuit in the first game, Travis Touchdown is looking to retire in peace. But there is no rest for killers, and soon he is whisked back into the revenge game, meting out justice on behalf of a slain friend. With a cast of eccentric characters and more streamlined gameplay, Desperate Struggle is a worthy sequel.
When it comes to over-the-top bloodletting, even "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino would be proud of this game. Cutting up enemies with light-saber-wannabe swords offers a good time, if for no other reason than it's hard to find capable M-rated action games for the Wii.
The game would not be the success it is without its cool cast of characters. Travis exudes his own brand of goofiness, and the associates and bosses you encounter are worthy characters. Dr. Naomi is ready and able to upgrade your weaponry, and Henry and Silvia provide comic fodder as your allies. The bosses you'll battle are a cool blend of archetypes - a fat, bullish guy, a two-timing schoolgirl with a mean streak and many more.
