Eighty-second and fifth is more than just the address for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is, according to the website 82nd-and-fifth.metmuseum.org, "the intersection of art and ideas."
To this end, 100 museum curators recorded videos of less than three minutes each about the work of art that changed the way they see the world. The yearlong series releases new episodes every Wednesday. Eleven museum photographers capture each curator's transformative piece through video, close-up photos and 360-degree rotations, giving viewers an enriched perspective of the works.
You can subscribe to the series and receive emails to notify you when episodes are posted, or explore the site, searching by curator, work of art, time period, geographic location or tag list. We were entranced by "Enigma," a circa 1352-1336 BC Egyptian Canopic jar with a lid in the shape of a royal woman's head, chosen by Janice Kamrin. Aside from the video and photos, a link led us to a page with a detailed history of the jar, including its provenance and the gallery in which it is located.
