Thor Acura TL lands on NY Auto Show
Marvel comics superhero Thor doesn’t need a car. The guy can fly and jump between dimensions. BUT, if the need to burn rubber ever did arise, apparently he would pick up a “$230,000” Acura TL.
Acuras are being used as the official vehicle of the fictional law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D in the upcoming Thor (due out in May). In the comics, S.H.I.E.LD is a friendly organization that enlists the help of the thunder god to help fight evil.
The New York Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center has one of the vehicles used for the movie. According to the info label, this particular model is tricked out with the “Tactical Package,” sending the price way north of the $200,000 mark.
Yep, this is priciest Acura ever (actually, the most expensive real car built by Acura was the NSX, which cost close to $90,000).
The Tactical Package comes with a roof-mounted Sound-Cannon called The Hulk Buster and anti-ballistic shielding body panels. A 9-speed HYPER-shift transmission is standard equipment, as are bulletproof hyper-traction tires and a steering wheel with palm-scan ID.
A nitrous direct fuel-injection engine powers the car. The brake calipers are made from diamond quartz. It uses Paladium fuel, with an estimated 234 miles in the city and 302 miles on the highway. Actual Paladium efficiency will vary depending on driver’s skill and level of supervillian threat.
