CA: 'Fewer than 50' jobs to be cut on LI
Islandia-based software company CA Inc. earlier this week told "fewer than 50 employees" on Long Island that their jobs would be eliminated.
The company, one of the largest on Long Island, also said it would hire an equal number of employees over the next year for Islandia and other sites.
The company issued the statement after media inquiries but declined to give an exact number of employees or say when the layoffs would occur.
Affected employees work in the company's Global Information Services unit. CA said it has about 1,525 employees on the Island; down from 1,925 in 2007, according to Newsday data. The company has about 13,400 employees worldwide.
"We made this decision to better align the skills within our GIS organization to address our changing business requirements," the company said. "Our plan is to hire an equal number of employees over the next 12 months in Islandia and other sites, including our India technology center, to bring on the skills required."
The company also cited the strategy as a way to remain competitive.
"CA Technologies continually reviews the solutions and services it provides and its operations and cost structure to ensure that it is competitive in a very challenging industry," the company said.
CA designs, develops, markets, licenses and supports computer software products.
