A $1.25 million Bayport Colonial on two acres along Behmans Pond features a family room that was once used as an ice room, the listing agent says.
The ice room, used to store ice that was collected from the property’s private pond when it froze, was constructed in 1900 and was once part of a larger estate, says listing agent Tina Dougherty of Coach Realtors. The pond served other purposes as well.
“When it would freeze, all the kids from the neighborhood would come and ice skate on the pond,” Dougherty says. “The house is an intricate part of South Bayport history.”
The remainder of the six-bedroom, 5½-bathroom house was added as an extension in 1970, she adds. The main entry opens to a foyer that boasts a sweeping staircase. Oak flooring runs throughout the main level, which includes a formal living room. The family room boasts wood-beamed ceilings and a dual-sided fireplace that also warms the kitchen. Sliding glass doors off the eat-in kitchen and the formal dining room open to a multilevel deck that overlooks the secluded property.
The master bedroom boasts a bathroom, two walk-in closets and windows overlooking the pond. The house also includes a full finished basement and guest quarters with a private bathroom.
The property includes a pondside gazebo.
