A Huntington tower with a view

At first glance, one may think the tower on this Huntington property was built to complement the house — an 11-room Colonial constructed in 2004. But the tower has been standing for a lot longer than eight years.

Originally a water tower, it was built before 1909, says town historian Robert Hughes. The property and a house that no longer stands belonged to Henry Dubois, who was a well digger, Hughes notes.

When the new house was going up, the builder renovated the five-story cedar shake tower to create a cohesive look, says Elena D’Agostino of Signature Premier Properties, who is marketing the property for $1,199,000.

The base of the tower is 15 by 15 feet. There is a wraparound observation deck on the fourth and fifth levels. From here, views of Huntington Harbor are visible in the winter. The observation decks have new rubber roofs, says D’Agostino. “The tower would make a cool studio, office or pool house,” D’Agostino adds. There is no bathroom.

Resting on a flat parcel, the house features wood floors, moldings and a fireplace. It has a two-story entrance foyer as well as an open floor plan with a great room, kitchen and breakfast area. There are 4.5 bathrooms. Of five bedrooms, one is on the main floor. The second-floor bedrooms, including the master suite, have tray ceilings.

Also worth a mention is the L-shape master closet, which is 12 by 15 feet in one section and 5 by 12 feet around the bend.
