Bellmore ranch, nicknamed 'castle home,' lists for $699,000
A Bellmore ranch, lovingly nicknamed "the castle home," is on the market for $699,000. The annual property taxes are $12,205, and there is currently an offer pending.
The house was built in 1965 and was custom designed for its original owners, said listing agent Peter Frizalone of Douglas Elliman Real Estate. It sits on a 0.16-acre lot on Wilson Avenue.
With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the property stands at 2,767 square feet, excluding the basement and garage. Some standout features include a covered brick porch and wood beams across the ceiling in the kitchen. There are hardwood floors throughout, and a wood burning fireplace in the living room.
"The whole house is unique," said Frizalone. "Everyone who came into the house, everyone’s first word was 'interesting,' and not in a bad way. It’s very deceiving from the outside."
That’s because the layout is an L-shape, he explained, and the basement/garage space has the same square footage as the main level of the home. "That’s another thing people were in awe over: the duplicate footprint down below," Frizalone added.
Kevin and Michele Overhuls have lived in this house since 1995, and updated it by expanding the kitchen and adding two bathrooms.
"The style of the house and the turret in the front, those are the reasons we liked the house, and that was done by the previous owner," Michele said.
The property is served by the Bellmore School District. The house also contains natural gas and baseboard heating, with cooling wall units.
As for the future of the home, Michele hopes the new owners love it as much as she and her husband did.
"It’s been a work in progress, and everybody who comes to the house loves it," she said. "I hope they feel the same way and get the same response from people.
"And I hope they don't change it too much," she added with a laugh.
