Billy Joel sells Sagaponack mansion for $19M

Billy Joel is officially saying goodbye to Sagaponack.
Nancy Mizrahi of Saunders & Associates, who listed Joel’s 5,500-square-foot beachfront home in June, confirmed that the sale closed at the end of last week.
The buyer, whose name has not been disclosed, paid $19 million, a source says.
The property had been listed for $19.95 million and went into contract in July.
This was the third time Joel has tried to sell the home, built for the late “Jaws” actor Roy Scheider. He first listed it in 2009 for $22.5 million, two years after he bought it. It was put back on the market last year for $23.5 million.
The cedar-shingled home has four first-floor en-suite bedrooms, with a chef’s kitchen — renovated by celebrity TV designer Nate Berkus — dining and living room on the upper level, with expansive water views. The property is on 145 feet of beach front and there is an oceanfront pool permit in place.
