Foreclosure help comes Friday to Centereach
A mobile legal clinic offering help with foreclosures and other matters this week is already fully booked, but plans are in the works for another event, according to a local official.
The New York Legal Assistance Group’s van will visit 31 Horseblock Rd. in Centereach from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, offering free consultations with attorneys on matters related to housing, health care, consumer protection, family law, employment and wills, according to a news release by state Sen. John Flanagan (R-E. Northport), who helped to organize the event. The visit is sponsored by the Manhattan-based New York Legal Assistance Group and the New York State Office of Court Administration.
The appointments filled up within two days after residents were notified about the visit in a mailing, but Flanagan is the working with the Manhattan legal group in hopes of bringing the van back later this year, said a spokesman, Robert Caroppoli.
The New York Legal Assistance Group offers free legal services to people who cannot afford a private attorney, working with local groups in Mineola, East Hills and Commack, as well as in New York City and Westchester, according to a spokeswoman.
