This Head of the Harbor home was built circa 1750 as part of a farm that is still active today and was last owned by a well-known birdhouse builder. It is on the market for $579,000.

Built by a man named Timothy Mills for one of his sons, it was once part of a larger farm that’s now operating as BB & GG Farms & Nursery, says listing agent Michael O’Dwyer of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.

Chuck Grodski, who built and sold birdhouses, purchased the home with his wife, Polly, in the 1980s. The couple, who were also antiques dealers, restored the home, adding wide-plank, white-pine floors that they had milled in Connecticut, O’Dwyer says. The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home has original hand-hewn ceiling beams.

Chuck Grodski died in 2010 and Polly Grodski died last year.

There is a tray with a painting of the house by Long Island artist William Sidney Mount, according to a history of Head of the Harbor.
