This more than 3,200-square-foot Colonial on 1.3 acres in Brookhaven listed for $869,000 dates back nearly 225 years and was part of the Middlebrook Farm.

The original piece of the six-bedroom, five-bath home across from Zimmer Park was built by the Ketcham family in 1793 by Isaac Ketcham and his son, Scudder, according to local historians. It is now the home’s sitting room, living room and one of the bedrooms, says listing agent Eileen Green, of Eileen Green Realty Corp.

A wood deck, accessible from the breakfast room, steps down into English gardens with boxwoods and roses. The garden is also accessible from a trellis opposite the deck. The professionally landscaped property includes in-ground sprinklers.

Architectural details include fireplaces in the living room, parlor, breakfast room and two upstairs bedrooms. A heated, two-car garage is connected to the home by a breezeway.

On the first floor, there is a formal dining room, an eat-in kitchen, a bedroom and an office. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms with bathrooms en suite; a third has an adjacent bathroom that is separated by a closet. A dressing room and a sewing room also serve as sleeping quarters.

In 1906, the Ketcham property was sold to Alfred Nelson, who named it Middlebrook Farm. The Nelson family lived there until Ethel Morris Nelson, Alfred’s daughter-in-law, died in 1966. Her husband, Desmond, sold off large portions of the farm, paving the way for the development of Chapel Avenue.

Architect Frederick Allardt then purchased the home and converted a barn on the farm into a stand-alone residence, which was later subdivided.
