MASSAPEQUA

222 St. Mark’s Place, $849,000

The spiral staircase in this two-story home on a canal off Massapequa Cove leads to a seating area — with cathedral ceilings, skylights and upper windows — that provides views of the water, says listing agent Lisbeth Finnerty of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. “The previous owner put the staircase in because she wanted it to remind her of her house in Florida when she was up here,” Finnerty says. “That’s really the feeling that you get.”

The wooden staircase, just beyond the foyer, connects to a second-level area that also features a bedroom and full bathroom. The seating area looks down on the home’s open floor plan, which includes a living room and dining room with stone fireplace.

The four-bedroom house features 3.5 updated bathrooms and a granite kitchen with sliding glass doors. The first-floor master suite, with a spa bathroom that features a separate shower and tub and radiant heated floors, also includes sliders that open to the back deck.

The 0.37-acre property is the last house on a dead-end street, with the canal running along the side of the lot. The property, with views of the canal from every room, features more than 110 feet of waterfront with new timber and vinyl bulkhead and a 20-by-32-foot deep water boat slip. The yard includes Trex decking and a pool.

The taxes are $19,661. Lisbeth M. Finnerty, Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, 516-965-3258.

The spiral staircase in this co-op connects what were once two separate studio apartments, says listing agent Ryan Tanacredi of Keystone Realty USA. The prior owner purchased both units, one on the second floor and the other directly above on the third, and turned them into a two-level, two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op.

“It’s extremely unique for the building. It’s the only one of its kind,” Tanacredi says. The spiral staircase leads from the living room of the bottom unit to a landing area in the upper unit. On the first level of the co-op is a living room, kitchen with breakfast area and a full bathroom. The second level includes two bedrooms, both with hardwood floors, and a full bathroom.

“It’s very nice that the sleeping quarters are completely separated from the rest of the living area,” Tanacredi says. The unit offers dual entry, with access to the hallways on the second and third floors of the prewar Riverview building.

A parking garage is attached to the 1932 building, with spaces available for a fee. In addition to a combo washer and dryer in the kitchen, the building also offers a laundry facility.

EAST NORTHPORT

16 Elmbark Lane, $749,000

An addition transformed this home from a standard center hall Colonial to a unique layout that includes a spiral staircase, says listing agent Loren Roye of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

The staircase is located in a study, which was added off the den, and features vaulted cedar ceilings with skylights, built-in bookshelves and walls of glass. Adjacent to a bedroom and bathroom, the staircase leads to a second-level bedroom that is 12.5-by-16-feet.

Because the study is off the main living space of the home, “it gives a lot of different options,” Roye says. “It would be a great home office or you could put your mom in that back area.”

The sliding glass doors in the study lead to the backyard, which has a deck, in-ground pool, hot tub, basketball court and built-in barbecue. The six-bedroom, five-bathroom home includes a formal living and dining room, eat-in kitchen that opens to the den, media room and screened porch. A full bathroom, powder room and dressing room are situated in the master suite.

The 0.53-acre property also has a full finished basement with wet bar and wine cellar and a detached two-car garage with loft and bathroom.

The taxes are $16,605. Loren Roye and Erica Bernardi, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, 516-446-3614, 631-804-5951.
