If you want a house with a pond
Ponds can add a sense of peace and tranquillity to any property. They also draw wildlife, says Karen Anderson Wadkovsky of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty, who is listing a Cold Spring Harbor property with a pond. While some landscapes incorporate a natural pond, others can be enhanced with one that is man-made. Shapes and sizes vary.
Glen Cove
17 Hollow Way, $1,799,000
This 4.29-acre parcel on Dosoris Pond has natural underground springs as well as three ponds that flow into each other, with the largest spilling into Dosoris.
One pond has a bridge with original structures on both sides. The one closest to the bridge, called Spring House, is believed to have been the water source for the original residence, while the other -- the wash house, which has a fireplace -- was used by servants to clean clothes.
The landscape also boasts a 1790 chestnut beam barn, a pool, a pool house and a two-bedroom cottage set amid specimen trees and annual and perennial gardens.
As for the 11-room house, it was completely renovated about 12 years ago. There are wide plank floors as well as moldings, in addition to amenities such as radiant heat floors and surround sound, says the listing agent. There are five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.

Wainscott
Wainscott Northwest Road, $699,000
Surrounded on three sides by a nature preserve, this property -- just more than half an acre -- has a man-made pond in the backyard. Enveloped by plantings and a natural environment, the pond is in a private setting at the bottom of a hill.
Closer to the rear of the house is a bluestone patio and a heated in-ground pool. The six-room ranch has a living room with a fireplace and an updated kitchen with granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances and recessed lighting.
The dining room has sliding-glass doors that open to the deck, which has a retractable awning. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a partially finished basement.

Cold Spring Harbor
27 Titus Lane, $1,595,000
Great blue herons, great white herons and other birds in flight -- probably to and from Cold Spring Harbor -- often lay over in the man-made pond on this 2.16-acre parcel, says the listing agent.
Situated in the back of the house, the pond has a fountain in the center, which keeps the water circulating. The rest of the landscape includes specimen plantings as well as an original horse barn.
The house -- an 11-room Colonial -- features wood floors, Palladian windows, detailed moldings, built-in bookcases, four fireplaces and two staircases. Of five bedrooms, two are en suite. There are four bathrooms. Amenities include beach and mooring rights to Eagle Dock Beach.
