Islip Castle will be sold at auction this April, with a starting bid of $1.399 million.
The circa- 1871 building was formerly the home of Nico's At The Gatsby Restaurant. The three-story, 14,000-square-foot property is full of historical details and sits on about 2.3 acres at 712 Montauk Hwy. in Islip, directly across from Islip Town Hall, says Bill Collins of All Island Realty, who is handling the auction. The property is zoned for restaurant, commercial, professional, residential or mixed use, and an open house is scheduled for April 15 and 16, with prior viewings by appointment only.
Afterward, a field bid-style auction will be held, with sealed bids accepted from April 18 to 22. On April 26, bids will be opened either at the castle itself or at the All Island Realty offices and the highest verified cash bid will be accepted.
Islip Castle was previously on the market for $1.850 million, and real estate taxes are currently $73, 551.
