U.S. Steel heir John Shaffer Phipps' former estate on the market
An 11.35-acre Old Westbury property on the market for $5.29 million was once the north entrance to Old Westbury Gardens, the former estate of U.S. Steel heir John Shaffer Phipps.
The sellers purchased the property from the Phipps family 51 years ago, says listing agent Maria Petkanas of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.
The property includes scenic pastures and mature specimen trees. There's also a four-bedroom, 31/2-bathroom Colonial, built in 1967.
The property is one of the area's few remaining large parcels.
"In Old Westbury, the large parcels like this are becoming history," Petkanas says.
