An oceanfront property in Montauk that was just listed for $8.75 million was owned by E. Virgil Conway, an attorney and banker who served as chair of the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority from 1995 to 2001.

During his tenure at the MTA, Conway, who died in October at the age of 85, oversaw the transition from the token to the MetroCard, the elimination of two-fare zones and the groundbreaking of the East Side Access project to bring Long Island Rail Road trains to Grand Central Terminal.

The property, within walking distance of downtown Montauk, has 90 feet of beach frontage with a heated gunite pool on the deck overlooking the water.

“It’s a lovely meandering path very close to the house and a beautiful beach,” says listing agent Liz Lycke of The Corcoran Group.

The four-bedroom, 4 1/2-bathroom Contemporary was built in 1967, and the living and dining area, along with the master bedroom and one other bedroom, have ocean views.

Conway purchased the home in 1993, says Lycke.
