It’s a safe assumption that at some point this property had vibrant, colorful, showy flowers gracing a velvety green lawn. The Hagedorn family, founders of Miracle Gro plant food, put this Sands Point property on the market Monday for $7,744,797. More on that price point later.

It is an exceptional piece of real estate, 3.38 acres with 400 feet of waterfront about 30 feet above the Sound. Listing agent Diane Benisch of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate describes the property as “stunningly spectacular.”

"There are so few properties like this available as others are getting divided up," she adds. "This kind of privacy and seclusion is so unusual.”

The three-story, 10-room home, built in 1948, has four bedrooms and four full bathrooms with central air conditioning and an in-ground pool.

The Hagedorns and Benisch came up with the unconventional $7,744,797 asking price because, Benisch says, it's "an unusual property."

Public records show that Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran lives nearby. We already know he likes velvety green lawns.

Horace Hagedorn founded Miracle-Gro Products in 1950. It merged with Scotts Company in 1995 in a $200 million stock deal.
