Old Westbury mansion reminiscent of a Newport castle
An Old Westbury mansion built by Thomas Hastings — the architect for the New York Public Library — is on the market for $9.49 million.
Hastings was the original owner of the 1913 home, says Dalia Elison, listing agent for the house with Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
The 10-bedroom home contains original murals, including one depicting a sky on a ceiling of the breakfast room, Elison says, adding that the house reminds her of a Newport, Rhode Island, mansion.
“You can really see this house in those castles,” she says.
There’s an elevator, main kitchen and service kitchen. The style of the home is a combination of French, English and Italian styles with marble columns, and the dining room has paneling that dates back to 18th century England.
The estate includes a pool and three guest cottages.
