Orient home built for multigenerational use

General contractor Gennaro “Jerry” DeFiore says the original purpose for building this 4,800-square-foot home in Orient, now listed for $1.798 million, was for it to be a multigenerational, year-round residence for his family. Between his three adult children and their kids, and his own father and his wife’s mother and his wife’s children, the house was going to be a bustling five-bedroom, 6 1⁄2-bath compound. But, he says, the initial enthusiasm waned, and his father fell ill and died in the spring.

The home, which DeFiore designed, is scheduled to be completed in six weeks. He says he and his wife are pursuing plans to move to the Finger Lakes area of New York State.

The house has windows overlooking Long Island Sound as well as four-direction views at the home’s highest point. There are many more windows, as well as many rooflines and decks, some covered.

The 0.46-acre property includes an in-ground pool.

“The house speaks for itself. It has a very robust amount of one-of-a-kind stylized accents and architectural millwork,” DeFiore says.

The many levels of the home start with a walk-out basement followed by the main level, the second level, the mezzanine level and is topped with a widow’s watch. “This home could be a corporate retreat or serve as a respite for employees or for seminars,” DeFiore says, “or it could be a seasonal rental or a magnificent second home for a family of means.”
