The storied East Hampton estate Grey Gardens is available to rent for two weeks this August, Curbed Hamptons reports. The 28-room mansion is owned by Ben Bradlee, former Washington Post executive editor, and his wife, author and journalist Sally Quinn.
Interior designer Celerie Kemble and her husband, Boykin Curry, reportedly signed a five-year lease in 2009 to rent the house for every month except August. The 6,000-square-foot home is listed for rent from Aug. 20 to Sept. 5 for $135,000. Bill Williams of Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing agent.
The 1897 estate’s strange past has been twice chronicled on film -- first in a 1973 documentary, and again in a 2009 HBO film starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore as Kennedy relatives Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier, an eccentric mother and daughter who lived there in near-isolation for four decades while letting the place deteriorate into squalor. Bradlee bought the two-acre property from the Bouviers in 1977 and restored it.
