A 1912 Mediterranean-style mansion in Sands Point, listed for $5,350,000, can claim fewer than six degrees of separation from the Kennedy clan through its architect, Addison Mizner. He is better known for the many public buildings and high society residences he designed in Boca Raton and Palm Beach, Fla., including the former Kennedy compound which was dubbed the Winter White House during John F. Kennedy’s presidency.
The 12-room house has undergone extensive renovations by the current owners, says listing agent Francesca Morrocu Blass of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. The updated fixtures and tiles in the seven bathrooms reflect the 1912 period. The foyer floor was replaced with imported 17th century French tiles.
Original to the house are the quartersawed oak parquet floors with inlaid mahogany borders in the formal dining and living rooms as well as the windows, arched transoms and French doors.
There are six bedrooms, including a master suite with “his” and “hers” bathrooms, a sitting area with one of the home’s three fireplaces plus a bonus room.
The property is on 3.5 acres. Other features include an eat-in kitchen, family room, in-ground pool and a porte cochere, where horse-drawn carriages once pulled up to the entrance.
