Sailing club could open on J.Lo's Hamptons' block

Here's a little something about what could become Jenny's new block: The Hamptons house Jennifer Lopez has made an offer to buy is across the street from a planned  sailing club.

The shack where the Mecox Yacht Club would be based can be seen in this aerial shot of the $17.995 million Water Mill estate that Lopez wants to purchase. It's a shack in the lower right-hand corner where the club operated from 1939 to 1990, says Jeff Mansfield, one of the proponents.

His group, the Mecox Sailing Association, has a plan before the Town of Southampton to restore the 18-by-10-foot structure, which would run a sailing school two days a week in July and August and allow members to use the equipment from May to September. The land is owned by the town.

"From J-Lo’s yard, you can’t see the shack because of the shrubbery and growth on the property," says Mansfield, a Bridgehampton stay-at-home dad.

As for any noise the singer might hear when staying there, Mansfield says, "I don’t think she has to be concerned about 9-year-olds. They sail out in the bay. She might hear some kids laughing a little bit when they rig their boats. But there will be no parties, no barbecues, no social events and no regattas. It’s just going to be sailing for little kids."

Opponents who live on the street recently filed suit in State Supreme Court in Riverhead to block the club from opening. The Mecox Bay Civic Association, which has about 30 to 35 members, also sought and received a temporary restraining order, says Melville attorney Bram Weber.

Lopez, who has lived for years in Brookville with soon-to-be-ex husband Marc Anthony, has made an accepted offer on the home and lawyers are drawing up the contracts, a source told Real LI last week.
