An architectural model of Keewaydin, the Southampton estate that sold earlier this year for $14.2 million, is among the scale models on exhibit in “Phenomenal Places: The Architectural Models of Gary Lawrance, AIA,” at the Southampton Historical Museum.
Lawrance, an architect from Stony Brook, has been building architectural models for almost 25 years and has worked with some of the area’s most notable names, including John Laffey and Zwirko & Ortmann. He also co-authored “Houses of the Hamptons, 1880-1930,” published by Acanthus Press, and he writes two blogs: Houses of the Hamptons and Mansions of the Gilded Age.
“People are fascinated with miniatures and with beautiful houses,” Lawrance says. “Most of these houses are large homes in the Hamptons and on the Gold Coast, but you get a different sense of scale with a model.”
The show runs through Sept. 3.
