This collection of seven A-frame cottages in the middle of Shelter Island was built in 1970 by the Steinmuller family and rented out year-round. The 1.4-acre property is now on the market for $1.499 million.
“It’s very unusual architecture,” says listing agent Penelope Moore of Saunders & Associates. “When you come out to Shelter Island, aside from this, there are less than a dozen A-frame homes.”
One of the cottages used to be an Italian restaurant, Moore says, and was one of the few places in Shelter Island that stayed open after 7 p.m.
The complex sits across from Sylvester Manor, an organic farm that organizes arts and educational programs. Moore says it would be ideal for a hotel, and the property can be further developed with a pool or tennis courts.
