Updated Asharoken beach house lists for $2.499M
At every turn, this five-bedroom, three-bath Asharoken beach house on the market for $2.499 million is filled with the handiwork of its current owners.
In fact, Kevin and Kathleen Thompson say they began working on the property well before they moved in — first by leaving letters in the neighborhood in search of a seller.
“We always wanted to live on the water,” he says.
Once they found one, they helped the previous owner of this 2.7-acre property move; then 14 years of elbow grease began. For most projects, Kathleen drew up plans and Kevin brought them to life, the couple says.
Anderson 400 series windows with stainless steel hardware came first, followed by a new boiler and new HVAC in summer 2004. Later, Kevin added crown moldings and created an open-plan great room with multiple doors to a Northport Bay-facing deck.
“The sunsets are just spectacular,” Kevin says.
A stainless-steel kitchen has a Wolf range, a Thermador hood, granite counters and a kitchen island with a wine cooler, an ice-maker and built-ins for stemware. The living and dining rooms share a double-sided stone fireplace. The master bedroom suite has French doors to the deck and a walk-in closet with built-ins that connects to an en-suite bath with radiant heat, a soaking tub and TV.
On the lower level, sliding doors in a family room with a refurbished fireplace open to a covered deck leading to 90 feet of waterfront. There are also three bedrooms, a full bath and a wet bar. A three-bedroom, two-bath cottage has radiant heat and cherry cabinets.
Additional updates include a new 50-year roof, central vacuum system, solar hot water system with a 20-year warranty and a 32-panel solar system for the entire house.
With the final updates complete, Kevin has one last project — listing the home himself through Laffey Real Estate in Huntington.
“I haven’t stopped,” he says.
