Don Rickles grew up in Jackson Heights, but early on in the 84-year-old comedic legend's life, he lived in locales farther east.

"When I was a very young man, we used to have a bungalow with another family in Far Rockaway," says Rickles in an interview about his upcoming two-night performance this weekend at the Theatre at Westbury. "You took a shower outside, and when you went to the bathroom half your body was outside. They were struggling days. But we loved it. We used to carry our beach chairs all the way to the beach."

Later on, Rickles lived with his mother in Long Beach.

"We had an apartment," he says. "I worked a lot of places in Long Beach in those days. They had many country clubs, and I used work on the beaches doing comedy."

His family also once owned a summer home in Patchogue.
