Though she remains under a psychiatric hold, Amanda Bynes hasn't had to legally surrender all of her independence — yet.

Bynes' parents, Rick, 68, and Lynn, 66, appeared in front of a judge Friday in Oxnard, Calif., during a hearing in which their attorney explained that the reason they applied for a conservatorship over their daughter was because they feared she would be released following a 72-hour hold, People reports. The hold was set to expire Thursday.

Around the time Rick and Lynn filed their application for conservatorship on Thursday, a judge extended the psychiatric hold for up to two weeks.

The judge in Friday's hearing, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen M. Reiser, stated that because Bynes, 27, is under the 14-day hold, which began Monday after she allegedly started a fire in a stranger's driveway, there is no need to rush a decision regarding conservatorship.

Reiser scheduled a hearing on the issue Aug. 9 and said he also wants to meet one-on-one with Bynes before making a decision.

"We are deeply concerned that Amanda poses a substantial risk to herself, to others, and to property based on recent events in her life," the filing from Bynes' parents states. It cites numerous instances of increasingly bizarre behavior by their daughter in the past year.

"We believe she is essentially homeless," the filing states.

Bynes had amassed $4 million in savings but has spent $1.2 million in a short amount of time, her parents' petition states. They state they suspect some of the money has been spent on drugs and plastic surgery and cite her statements that she is "ugly," some of which have been posted on her Twitter account.
