Amber Heard arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in 2009 case against former girlfriend
Actress Amber Heard, who filed for divorce from Johnny Depp last month, alleging verbal and physical abuse, herself was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in 2009.
The King County, Washington, court clerk confirmed to People magazine Tuesday that Heard, 30, had appeared before a judge on Sept. 15, 2009, for what records call a “probable cause assault, domestic violence” hearing.
TMZ.com had reported earlier Tuesday that Heard and her then-domestic partner, photographer Tasya van Ree, argued on Sept. 14 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Heard allegedly grabbed and struck van Ree on the arm, and was arrested and booked, the website said. No charges were filed.
“The Danish Girl” actress had come out at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) 25th-anniversary gala in December 2010, attending with van Ree, who she had begun dating in 2008. “I hate the idea of a label just as much as anyone else,” Heard told AfterEllen.com at the event, “but I’m with who I’m with, I love who I love.” She said of van Ree, just over a year after the airport altercation, “She’s so beautiful. I mean, you’d have to be crazy not to want to go out with her!”
Heard and film star Depp, who met while filming the 2011 film “The Rum Diary” and later began dating, married on Feb. 3, 2015.
