Amy Schumer introduces possible new boyfriend, Ben Hanisch

Rockville Centre-raised comedy star Amy Schumer appears to have a new boyfriend, whom she obliquely introduced via a tweet of the two of them attending a White House event.

“Fam and man at the whitehizzy,” Schumer, 34, tweeted Tuesday from a driveway outside the White House, with an image of herself, her two siblings and a man with an arm around her.

Four days earlier, Ben Hanisch, founder of a custom-furniture company in Chicago, The Last Workshop, posted an Instagram photo of himself and Schumer against a backdrop of blue water and far-off snow-capped mountains. “Sometimes in life you get extremely lucky,” he wrote, “and the smartest, funniest, most beautiful woman comes along when you least expect it. Here’s to what adventures 2016 brings!”

Schumer herself, not directly acknowledging Hanisch, posted a second tweet several hours after the first, running a portrait photo of President Barack Obama and writing, “Well the word is out. It’s official. Here’s my new boyfriend. #StopGunViolence.”

Hanisch, who attended the University of Utah, worked as a production assistant and did some crew work for the Salt Lake City-based Vita Brevis Films. He also pursued a professional snowboarding career in that city before switching to carpentry, and with friends designed and built out a warehouse loft space. He went on to apprentice with a custom-furniture maker, then started his own furniture firm, Project Sunday. Hanisch later moved to Chicago, near where his family lives, and started his current business. He also took acting classes there, landing a small role in a local feature in 2014 and the lead in a short film last year.

Schumer was at the White House to attend Obama’s news conference announcing his executive action on gun control measures, sitting in the front row alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Obama aide Valerie Jarrett and former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman shot at point-blank range during a mass shooting in 2011. Schumer has become a vocal advocate of gun-control measures following a fatal shooting in July at a Louisiana theater showing her movie “Trainwreck.” Two audience members were killed and nine others were injured.

Schumer’s past boyfriends have included comedian Anthony Jeselnik and WWE pro-wrestling star Dolph Ziggler.

Meanwhile, Comedy Central announced Wednesday it was renewing Schumer’s Emmy-winning series, “Inside Amy Schumer,” for a fifth season.
