Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger split after two years of marriage
Singer Avril Lavigne and her husband, Nickelback lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, are separating after two years of marriage.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne wrote on Instagram Wednesday, beside a photo of the two of them in happier times, smiling and holding hands. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
Lavigne, who turns 31 later this month, and Kroeger, 40, married on July 1, 2013, in France. They had become engaged the previous August.
This was Kroeger's first marriage and her second. Lavigne, whose hits include "Complicated" and 2013's platinum single "Here's to Never Growing Up," had been married to Sum 41 singer-guitarist Deryck Whibley from July 2006 until separating in September 2009. Their divorce was finalized just over a year later.
During her marriage to Kroeger, Lavigne suffered a severe case of Lyme disease that kept her bedridden for five months, she revealed in April. Kroeger himself currently is recuperating after having had an intracordal cyst on his voice box removed over the summer.
On August 13, Nickelback said it was canceling all the remaining dates on its No Fixed Address Tour, which had European shows scheduled from Sept. 7 to Dec. 30, in order for Kroeger to spend "the next six to nine months" recovering.
