Avril Lavigne, Chad Kroeger married in France
Singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne and rocker Chad Kroeger of the band Nickelback were married Monday, after erroneous accounts surfaced Saturday that the two had wed on that day.
Us Weekly, said Lavigne, 28, and Kroeger, 38, married at the medieval Chateau La Napoule in Mandelieu, France, near Cannes. The magazine said the reception and dinner lasted until 6 a.m. the following morning, and featured fireworks over the Mediterranean Sea.
Kroeger told People magazine in September that the two had "met while recording music in March [2012]. But we started dating July 1, so I'll let the math speak for itself there. We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," the independence-day holiday of the couple's native country. "We can't wait to start our life together. We're very happy."
He proposed in August with a 14-carat diamond engagement ring, People said. This is his first marriage. Lavigne and Sum 41 singer-guitarist Deryck Whibley married in July 2006, but separated in September 2009; their divorce was finalized more than a year later.
E! on Saturday announced that the two had married that day, though later reports clarified that Saturday was just the rehearsal dinner.
The mistaken report gained traction because of two tweets by Mike Heller, chief executive of Lavigne's management company, Talent Resources.
