Bijou Phillips hospitalized, in need of kidney transplant, report says

Actress Bijou Phillips, daughter of the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Phillips, reportedly has been hospitalized in need of a kidney transplant.

TMZ.com said Thursday that Phillips, 36, whose films include “Almost Famous” (2000) and “It’s Alive” (2008) and who played a recurring role on TV’s “Raising Hope,” was admitted to a Santa Barbara, California, hospital Wednesday night. The site said Phillips has had an ongoing illness for which she was being treated, and sought medical attention when a fever spiked. She reportedly is in stable condition but will require the transplant at some unspecified time.

TMZ later reported that Phillips’ representative told the website, “Bijou was born with small kidneys and has been quietly dealing with kidney disease for the last five years, including being on the transplant list. In an effort to heal her body she has led a stress free life with a vegan diet which eventually wasn’t enough and she’s been privately having dialysis.”

The rep added Phillips recently had learned that a friend of hers was a donor match “and is optimistic she will have a transplant soon.”

Her husband, “That ’70s Show” star Danny Masterson, who was raised in Garden City and East Williston, has been by her side, TMZ said. Phillips and Masterson, 40, married on Oct. 18, 2011, after eight years together. The two have a daughter, Fianna Francis, who turned 3 on Valentine’s Day.

Phillips, the daughter of The Mamas & the Papas co-founder John Phillips, is the half-sister of singer-actress Chynna Phillips and 1970s “One Day at a Time” star Mackenzie Phillips. Masterson, currently a star of the Netflix sitcom “The Ranch” opposite his “That ’70s Show” castmate Ashton Kutcher, is the brother of actor Christopher Masterson (“Malcolm in the Middle”).
