Vietnam veteran, anti-war activist and author Ron Kovic, a Massapequa native, was born on July 4, 1946. His memoir about the Vietnam War, paralysis and activism, titled "Born on the Fourth of July," was the basis for Oliver Stone's film of the same name, starring Tom Cruise as Kovic.
