Celebrities who've split and reunited
Barbara Walters and Merv Adelson
Celebrity journalist Barbara Walters first married real estate developer and TV producer Merv Adelson in 1981, a marriage that was widely reported to have ended in 1984, before the couple exchanged vows again in 1986. The couple stayed married until 1992. (Walters told The New York Times in 2015 that she and Adelson were only married once.)
Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon
Actress and iconic pinup girl Pamela Anderson first wed professional gambler Rick Salomon in October 2007, but the two divorced less than three months later. However, Anderson and Salomon again attempted to tie the knot, saying "I Do" once more in January 2014. Anderson's lawyer filed divorce papers in July of that same year, and their second marriage was officially terminated in April 2015.
Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner
Actors Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner (pictured here with Wood's daughter-Wagner's step-daughter Natasha and Courtney, Wagner and Wood's daughter) were first wed in 1957, a year after their first date. The relationship ended in divorce by 1962, but Wood and Wagner reconciled and remarried in 1972. The two remained wed until Wood's death in 1981.
Sean Penn and Robin Wright
Sean Penn and Robin Wright were a known item as early as 1989, and got married in 1993. Penn and Wright each filed divorce papers in December 2007, legally separating. "Irreconcilable differences" was the reason reportedly listed by both. The divorce petition was dismissed by April 2008, but Wright again filed for divorce by August of that year (the divorce was finalized in 2010).
Larry King and Shawn Southwick
Talk show host Larry King married his current (and seventh) wife, Shawn Southwick, in 1997. The two remain in wedlock, despite both filing divorce papers in 2010 (they reconciled before ending the marriage).
Pink and Carey Hart
Pop star Pink first married professional motorcross performer Carey Hart in January 2006 after meeting in 2001 -- a period that included a breakup -- but by early 2008, the two had legally separated. However, the couple never divorced, and by spring 2009 were once again openly romantically involved, and welcomed Willow Sage, their first child, to the world in June 2011. Pink appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in May 2016 and joked that she and her husband were due for another marital pause -- a jest that seems to be just that as the couple announced in November 2016 via Twitter and Instagram that they are expecting their second child.
Patrick Dempsey and Jill Fink
Patrick Dempsey and his wife, makeup artist and jewelry designer Jillian Fink Dempsey, are divorcing after 15 years of marriage, reports read in January 2015. The two had married on July 31, 1999, at the Dempsey family farmhouse in Maine. They had met five years earlier, when she was a hairstylist and he a client. Fast-forward to May 2016, and the "Grey's Anatomy" actor announced they had reconciled. The couple has three children.
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo
Maroon 5 frontman and "The Voice" coach Adam Levine and Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo didn't make it to the altar without a little hiccup. Levine and Prinsloo were dating as of June 2012. After a spring 2013 breakup -- during which Levine reportedly dated Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Nina Agdal -- the couple reconciled. In July 2013, Levine's representative announced that the singer and Prinsloo were engaged. Married since July 19, 2014, they now are parents to daughter Dusty Rose, born in September 2016.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, met as undergraduates at Scotland's St. Andrews University and went public with their relationship in 2004. By March 2007, the couple was on the outs -- but not for long. They rekindled their relationship four months later, and by October 2010, Prince William asked Kate to marry him. In April 2011, the royal couple said "I do," and five years later, they have two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth began a romance after meeting on the set of their coming-of-age romantic drama, "The Last Song," in 2009. They broke up and reunited at least twice before becoming engaged in 2012, and called off the engagement in September of the following year. After some time apart, it seems their romance has been rekindled.
Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and Miss December 2009 Crystal Harris made two attempts at walking down the aisle. Their first was unsuccessful, with the couple having split up five days before their planned nuptials in June 2011. Their second attempt was more successful, with the couple making it official on Dec. 31, 2012.
Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari
Things weren't always so great for reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. The couple first got engaged in April 2011 while on vacation in Mexico. Within three months, and after a Life & Style wedding-related cover shoot, the engagement was called off. By October 2011, the couple not only announced they were engaged again, but also that they were expecting their first child together. Cavallari and Cutler ended up marrying in June 2013 in Nashville. They now have three children.
Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo
After his divorce from singer Jessica Simpson in 2006, former boy-bander Nick Lachey and TV personality Vanessa Minnillo went public with their relationship, but by 2009, they announced they would "remain good friends who still greatly care for one another," according to MTV. And that they did. In 2010, the couple came back stronger than ever and got engaged. They married on July 15, 2011. They have two kids and one on the way.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
Things weren't always as blissful as they are now with celebrity couple Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. The couple, who dated on and off for four years before getting engaged on Dec. 21, 2013, initially broke things off due to "distance and scheduling" issues, she once told Glamour. During that time, Wade had fathered a child with another woman. The "Being Mary Jane" actress and NBA player Wade eventually married on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Miami.
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green met in 2004 when he guest-starred on her series, "Hope & Faith." After two engagements (one in 2006 and one in 2010), the pair eventually married on the Big Island of Hawaii's Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Ka'upulehu. Although Fox has filed for divorce from Green, the two are often spotted together -- with and without their three children.
Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson
Melanie Griffith began dating 22-year-old actor Don Johnson when he worked with her mother, Tippi Hedren, in "The Harrad Experiment"; she was just 14. The couple married in 1976, but split after six months. After subsequent marriages for both and a stint in rehab for Griffith, the pair remarried in 1989. A few months later, Griffith gave birth to daughter Dakota Johnson. They divorced in 1996.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
The "Can't Stop the Feeling" singer and "Total Recall" actress became engaged in late December 2011 after a romance that began in January 2007 but was interrupted by a three-month split in 2011. They ended up marrying in Italy in October 2012, and are now parents of a son, Silas.
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne
Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne and "The Talk" co-host Sharon Osbourne went their separate ways, for the second time, in May 2016. Back in 2013, Sharon announced she was leaving the heavy metal rocker due to his addiction issues. This time, infidelity -- on Ozzy's part -- is to blame. They've since reconciled and the rocker is seeking treatment for sex addiction. Married for more than 33 years, they have three children: Aimee, 32; Kelly, 31, and Jack, 30.
Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus
The parents of pop star and former "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus met in 1991, and married in 1993. The pair remain lawfully wed, despite country music star and actor Billy Ray filing for divorce in 2010, and spouse Tish doing the same in 2013.
NeNe Leakes and Gregg Leakes
"The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star NeNe Leakes first met her real estate investor husband Gregg Leakes in 1996, and the two married in 1997. NeNe and Gregg separated in 2010 and divorced in September 2011 -- but a reconciliation took place, leading to a second engagement in January 2013. The couple remarried in June 2013.
Steve Craig and Marie Osmond
Actress Marie Osmond and former Brigham Young University basketball player Steve Craig first married in June 1982, but divorced in October 1985. Osmond married record producer Brian Blosil in October of 1986, a marriage that lasted until March 2007. Osmond remarried Craig in May 2011.
Musician and actor Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus, Jr. met wife Shante Taylor in high school, and the two married in June 1997. Snoop had filed for divorce in May 2004, but the couple remained wed and eventually renewed their vows in January 2008.
The pop star pair have an off-again, on-again relationship that has received heavy media scrutiny since Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were first revealed as an item in late 2010, when he was 16 and she was 17. Tracking their couple status is difficult, as tabloids have a history of linking -- and unlinking -- the two, but there was an "official" breakup in November 2012 and reunion in September 2014, as well as an apparent breakup in October 2014. Speculation that Bieber and Gomez remain in some sort of relationship is common, but as December 2016, Bieber has publicly stated he is single.
Rock musician Slash, best known for his work with the band Guns N' Roses, married wife Perla Ferrar on October 2001. Slash has since filed for divorce from Ferrar twice: the first in August 2010 (the couple reconciled by October of that same year), the second in December 2014 -- and per several websites the two allegedly remain locked in acrimonious divorce proceedings.
Socialites and reality stars Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick started dating in 2006, and have famously had an on-again, off-again relationship; the two have three children together. They are no longer together.
The iconic Hollywood actors have both passed, but in life were linked, in part due to a pair of failed marriages. Burton and Taylor met while working on "Cleopatra" (1963); they were both married to other people at the time, but caused scandal when the press revealed the two were having an affair. Both got divorced and then married each other in March 1964. The marriage lasted for 10 years, and the two divorced in June 1974 -- but reconciled and remarried in October 1975. Their second marriage also ended in divorce (July 1976), putting their official romantic relationship status to a close -- despite allegations in the press that the two never lost their bond.
