"X-Factor" star Rachel Crow was adopted as an infant after being placed in foster care. Her adoptive mother told People magazine that Crow was born "a crack baby" saying she "went through withdrawals and everything."

Nicole Richie

Reality star-turned fashion designer Nicole Richie's biological parents were friends of singer Lionel Richie. For financial reasons, they sent her to live with Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey, when Nicole was 3. The couple legally adopted her six years later.

Michael Oher

Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Michael Oher was one of 12 children born to Denise Oher, who suffered from alcohol and drug addiction. His father was frequently in prison and he was left homeless or in foster care for most of his childhood. In 2004, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy took in the then-teenager, and eventually adopted him. His story was told in the 2009 movie, "The Blind Side."

Priscilla Presley

The actress and former wife of Elvis Presley was born to a U.S. Army lieutenant and his wife, James and Anne Wagner. Her father died in a plane crash when she was a baby and her mother remarried. Her step-father, Joseph Beaulieu, adopted her and she was not told about her birth father until she was a teenager.

JC Chasez

Frances McDormand

Darryl 'D.M.C.' McDaniels

D.M.C. of hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. was born to an unwed mother who surrendered him to the New York Foundling home. He lived in foster care for most of his childhood until being placed with Banna and Byford McDaniels who later adopted him.

EDM DJ Skrillex found out at age 16 that he was adopted. He told Katie Couric in a 2015 interview that his biological mother was a friend of his adoptive parents and that he had not had contact with her in years.

Simone Biles

Steve Jobs

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was born to Abdulfattah "John" Jandali, a Syrian immigrant, and Joanne Schieble. According to Walter Isaacson's authorized "Steve Jobs" biography (2011), Jobs' biological mother's father forbid their marriage, and the couple gave Jobs up for adoption. They later married and had a daughter, while Paul and Clara Jobs legally adopted Steve Jobs in 1955.

Melissa Gilbert
