R&B singer Ciara reportedly has sued her former fiance, rapper Future, over allegedly defamatory comments he has made.
TMZ.com posted a video early Tuesday showing what it said was a process server in the course of serving Future with a lawsuit at Los Angeles International Airport. According to a copy of the lawsuit the site obtained, Ciara, 30, born Ciara Harris, is suing for $15 million, claiming slander and libel. The suit also requests that Future, 32, born Nayvadius Wilburn, be enjoined from speaking publicly about family matters involving his and Ciara’s son, Future Zahir Wilburn, who turns 2 in May.
In a since-deleted tweet posted Jan. 4, Future, using a derogatory term toward her, said Ciara “got control problems.” In three subsequent tweets, still visible Tuesday, he added, “I gotta go through lawyers to see babyfuture” even though he pays, he said, “15k a month” in child support. “I jus want babyfuture that’s all. I been silent for a year & a half..I ran outta patience.”
Ciara’s lawsuit contends Future has had at least 19 visitations, some spanning several days, since December 2014, TMZ said.
The Grammy Award-winner’s suit also objects to Future criticizing her for allowing her current beau, 27-year-old Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, to be photographed pushing infant Future in a stroller. “Of course I wouldn’t want someone pushing my son,” he told radio-show host Charlamagne tha God on the WWPR-FM/Power 105.1 morning show “The Breakfast Club” in July. “Like, that’s the number one rule . . . You know this dude for a few months and you’re bringing him around your kid? Who does that? Nobody does that.”
He added, “At the end of the day, I’m not for the publicity stunts. Leave my son out of the publicity stunts. Just leave him out of your relationship.”
Billboard said a representative for Ciara had no comment regarding the lawsuit story, while Future’s record company label did not respond.
Future and Ciara became engaged in October 2013, but ended their relationship the following August. The rapper has three children from previous relationships.
