"Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon and her fiancee, former education organizer Christine Marinoni, became parents Monday when Marinoni gave birth to their first son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni. Nixon herself has two children, Samantha, 14, and Charles, 8, with her former longtime boyfriend.

"Christine and baby are doing great," Nixon's representative told People magazine, giving no further information.

Nixon, 44, and Marinoni, 43, announced their engagement in 2009 and have said they hope to marry in New York. They met in 2001 when Nixon was helping campaign to reduce public-school class sizes in New York City, said The Advocate, and became friends during Nixon's split with her boyfriend of 15 years, photographer Danny Mozes. The two women started dating in 2004.

"Maybe I'm just lucky, but I feel like Christine is so amazing with our kids - because they're our kids," she told The Advocate in a 2010 interview.
