Dina Lohan to continue substance abuse counseling

Actress Lindsay Lohan's mom, Dina Lohan, will continue with substance abuse counseling sessions and her drunken driving case could be resolved in March, a judge said Tuesday.

The Merrick woman appeared in First District Court in Hempstead in connection with her arrest in September after police stopped her white BMW on the Northern State Parkway.

Dina Lohan, 51, previously pleaded not guilty to multiple DWI charges and surrendered her driver's license.

State Police alleged after her 2013 arrest that she had been driving 77 mph in a 55-mph area while intoxicated.

Tuesday, Lohan's attorney, Mark Heller, spoke to Judge Andrew Engel about where Dina Lohan could do community service to help her case. The lawyer wouldn't talk about it on the way out of court.

"We're not at that point," Heller said when asked whether his client planned to do community service.

The attorney also wouldn't say whether Dina Lohan was planning to change her plea.

At Heller's request, Engel put a statement on the record saying a media account that he had previously ordered Dina Lohan to undergo a psychological exam was inaccurate.

In November, Engel had referred Dina Lohan to a community service program, saying volunteering could help her case.

The judge also said then that she should undergo an independent treatment evaluation.

Engel said Tuesday that Dina Lohan had finished about half of her 12 counseling sessions without incident.

Dina Lohan didn't respond to questions before her legal team whisked her away from the courthouse Tuesday in a black BMW.
