Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's mother, cousin safe after head-on crash with alleged drunken driver

Professional wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said Sunday that his mother and a cousin survived a car crash with an alleged drunken driver.

"My mom" -- Ata Johnson -- "and [my] cousin Lina Fanene were struck head on by a drunk driver this week -- they lived," Johnson, 42, tweeted. "First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them," he wrote in a longer message on Instagram.

He tweeted shortly afterward, "This was 100% preventable."

The "Hercules" star gave no day or locale for the accident, but his cousin -- 31-year-old Savelina "Lina" Fanene, a former college basketball player and currently a WWE Diva trainee at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida -- posted a hospital-room image on Friday. In it, Dwayne Johnson makes a goofy face at the bedside of a bespectacled woman, presumably herself. "We are a bunch of goof balls!" she wrote.

WrestlingInc.com said Sunday that Fanene underwent surgery for an undisclosed arm injury.

Johnson's family has a long history in pro wrestling. His father, Rocky Johnson, born Wayde Douglas Bowles, was active in the ring from 1964 to 1991; his son portrayed him in a 1999 episode of "That '70s Show." His maternal grandfather, at least two uncles and several cousins all wrestled professionally.

Ata Maivia Johnson, 65, who divorced Rocky Johnson in 2003, suffered stage 3 lung cancer in summer 2009, her son said in January 2010, when he revealed that after chemotherapy and radiation she was declared cancer-free.
