Enrique Iglesias: Full recovery expected after onstage drone accident

Grammy Award-winning singer Enrique Iglesias is expected to recover fully from the onstage accident over the weekend in which he severely cut his fingers attempting to grab a camera drone, a routine he had performed successfully in past concerts.

"We wanted to give you a personal update about his condition," read a "Team Enrique" blog entry Tuesday on Iglesias' official site. "His recent surgery lasted longer than expected since the damage ended up being a bit worse than initially assessed. He suffered a fracture that needed to be corrected in addition to the reconstructive surgery. He will be recovering during the next few weeks, but a full recovery is anticipated."

Iglesias, 40, has canceled the six upcoming concerts on his schedule: Mexico City on July 3-4; Marbella, Spain, Monte Carlo and Istanbul in August; and the Caribbean island of Curacao in September. His most recent album, last year's "Sex and Love," reached No. 8 on the Billboard album chart, No. 1 on its Latin album chart and platinum sales in nine countries.

The singer was injured while performing at the Plaza de Toros de Playas in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday, after attempting a stunt designed to give the concert audience his own point-of-view shot from the stage. Iglesias, son of Latin music star Julio Iglesias, received first aid at the scene to staunch his bleeding, then continued the concert for more than 30 minutes. Audience members posted social-media photos showing the star performing with a bloodied white T-shirt. Afterward, he was rushed to a Los Angeles specialist.

The day after the show, his blog posted: "Thank you to all the fans for your concern and good wishes. Enrique is getting the help he needs and we hope he will be totally fine. Will keep you posted and appreciate all your wishes and prayers."
