George, Amal Clooney welcome twins, Ella and Alexander

Oscar-winner George Clooney and his wife, international human-rights attorney Amal Alamuddin Clooney, welcomed twins Tuesday.

“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives,” Clooney’s representative, Stan Rosenfield, said in a statement. “Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. He added jokingly, “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”

The twins — the couple’s first children — were born at an undisclosed London hospital, said The Associated Press. Clooney, 55, and Alamuddin Clooney, 39, have a home in the English village of Sonning, an hour from London, but according to the AP were living in London in preparation for the births.

“Welcome to the world, Ella and Alexander Clooney,” tweeted daytime talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres. “Congratulations, George and Amal, or as I’m now calling you, Ocean’s Four,” a lighthearted reference to Clooney’s “Ocean’s Eleven” caper-movie franchise.

News of the couple expecting twins broke in February when “The Talk” host Julie Chen — who with her husband, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, is friends with the couple announced it on her show. She explained to “Entertainment Tonight”: “My husband and I saw George and Amal about almost three weeks ago, and they causally mentioned that they were expecting twins,” she said. She added, “And we were all like, ‘Is it a secret?! And George kind of went, ‘No.’ ”

Chen waited nonetheless, revealing it only after a British tabloid speculated on the pregnancy. While she did not speak to the couple beforehand, “I called Leslie first, because they’re old friends,” she said. “But Leslie knows him [Clooney] for so long, he goes, ‘You know what, I think it’s OK,’ ” she added.

The Clooneys married on Sept. 27, 2014 in Venice, Italy.
