Jerry Seinfeld Westbury show to benefit Sandy victims

Jerry Seinfeld has announced a Long Island benefit performance to raise money for victims of superstorm Sandy.

The comedian, born in Brooklyn but raised in Massapequa, will perform with opening act Colin Quinn Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, with all proceeds donated to local relief organizations. Tickets go on sale Nov. 30.

"I grew up on Long Island, and New York City is home," Seinfeld, 58, said in a statement. "This is a tough time for this area, and we're just glad to be able to help in the recovery."

He and Quinn have also converted two previously scheduled, sold-out shows to hurricane benefits, Thursday night at the Walt Whitman Theatre at Brooklyn College and on Dec. 6 at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island.

For Seinfeld, the NYCB gig marks a homecoming of sorts. He first appeared at what was then the Westbury Music Fair in 1989, on a bill with the singer Phoebe Snow. He said at the time, "It's pretty exciting. When you grow up on Long Island, Westbury is kind of like the Hollywood Palace."

GAGA PLEDGES $1 MILLION. Lady Gaga announced on her website that she is pledging $1 million to New York City and the American Red Cross for relief efforts, writing, "If it wasn't for NYC . . . I would not be the woman or artist that I am today . . . Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia [Germanotta], and my sisterNatali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours."
