'Jersey Shore's' Sammi and Ronnie split up

What's the state of the relationship between "Jersey Shore" couple Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro?

Despite being together on the season-three premiere of the MTV hit on Thursday, the two have split up since that episode was taped during the summer. The on-again-off-again couple's latest breakup became public Tuesday after a source told "Entertainment Tonight" that Giancola unfriended Ortiz-Magro and his "associates" from her Facebook page.

"They are done," a source close to the couple then told Us magazine, saying that there was "major tension" between the two as they did promotion for the new season. Another source said Giancola, 24, and Ortiz-Magro, 25, were "barely speaking to each other" at a Thursday appearance on "Good Morning America."

All this is just fine with fellow housemate Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio, who told Us he prefers "single Ronnie," adding that, "When he's doing the relationship thing, I let him do his thing, I don't get involved. When he's with Sammi, he's a different person. She's a difficult woman."

This wouldn't be the first time the two have broken up. After first getting together in the show's third episode in 2009 - with Giancola even meeting Ortiz-Magro's family two episodes later - he was seeing other women behind her back while in Miami for season two.

Previews of upcoming season three episodes indicate fighting between the two.
